Wednesday we went to Brookgreen Gardens. They had a lot of statues, a zoo with native South Carolina animals, remnants of a plantation with animals and big old trees covered in Spanish moss.
We first went through the zoo with the kids. I think they had lots of fun at the zoo. We saw otters, owls, foxes, an alligator, eagles, hawks, deer, geese and swans. They also had a child's garden. I think that was one of my favorites of the gardens. I liked it because they had a tunnel made of sticks and a play house that we walked through that was also of sticks. The statues in that garden was also playful geared toward children.
The whole morning was a little chilly and we were hoping to get to the beach that afternoon, but the clouds opened and rain came down. Rain was not even in the forecast, but there isn't anything we can do about the weather. We had packed a picnic lunch, but since it rained we had to move our picnic to a place that was sheltered. The kind people who worked there let us use an area that was roped off that had tables and chairs.
