Myrtle Beach : Day 2

On Tuesday we went to the USS North Carolina in Wilmington, North Carolina.  I had never been through a battleship before so it was pretty neat to walk through.  Sofia loved turning nobs, pushing buttons, and climbing up and down all the seats.  It was pretty neat to see their sleeping quarters, barber shop, laundry, post office, mess areas, munitions operations, doctor and dentist office and so on.

Some history of the ship is that it was in World War II and fought in every major battle in the Pacific.  Over 2,300 men served on the ship.  The ship earned fifteen battle stars.  During the ships service it only lost ten men in action.  The ship is 108' wide, 728' long, and weighed 44,800 tons when it was full.  The ship's armament included 9-16", 20-5", 60-40mm, and 48-20mm guns.
