Rainbow Colored Rice

I don't know of any kids that don't like to play with uncooked rice.  Sofia loves it!  We get out measuring spoons and cups, the funnel, and other little toys that she might want to play with in it at that time.  The other day though we decided to make the rice pretty.  White is just so boring.

  • We measured out two cups of rice.  White works best, but we didn't have enough white, so we used some brown rice to.
  • Poured the rice into a zip lock bag.
  • Add in 1 TBS of  rubbing alcohol
  • Add in drops of food coloring.  This all depends on the color you want.
  • Make sure the bag is zipped up (speaking from experience the rice can go everywhere.  Oops!) and shake the bag till everything is mixed really well.

  • Pour the rice onto paper towels to dry.  When they are dry have fun playing.

A mess is sure to be made each playtime, but isn't that what childhood is all about?  Sofia has played with her new rainbow rice everyday.  Easy inexpensive entertainment.
